1. Lead with what you can show
Projects, coursework, volunteering, a part-time job or a club role all count. Put the most relevant one first, with what you did and the result.
2. One page, plain layout
A single column with clear headings (Education, Experience, Projects, Skills) reads well for people and for hiring systems. Skip photos, tables and text in images.
3. Use the ad's own words
If the posting asks for Excel, customer service or Python and you have it, say it the same way. Don't add skills you don't have.
4. Numbers beat adjectives
"Served 80+ customers a shift" or "cut report time from 2 hours to 20 minutes" says more than "hard-working".
5. Say when you can start
For internships and co-op, put your available term (for example "Available May to August 2027, 4-month co-op term") near the top.
6. Check it once more
Spelling, a working email and phone number, and a file name like firstname-lastname-resume.pdf.
Only ads that say no experience is needed ("no experience required", "we will train you"). An ad that only says "entry-level" is listed under junior & entry-level titles instead.
