Privacy policy
JobRipe helps you find jobs and get hired. To do that we handle some personal information, mainly what you put in your profile and resume. This page explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, who sees it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
JobRipe is run by JobRipe, which decides how your information is used (the “data fiduciary” under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and the “controller” under the GDPR). In this policy “we” means JobRipe and “you” means anyone using the site, app or browser extension.
The short version: we don't sell your data, we don't use advertising trackers, and we don't set cookies to follow you. Recruiters only see your contact details if you accept their invitation or choose to share them. You can download a copy of your data, and delete your account and everything in it, yourself at any time.
1. What we collect
When you search without an account, we receive your searches and the pages you open, like any website. We don't ask who you are.
When you use “Match my resume” without an account, we read the resume you upload to find matching jobs and then discard it. It is not saved on our servers. A copy of the text is kept only in your own browser tab, so that if you sign up next your profile can be filled in without uploading again.
When you ask for job alerts without an account, we keep your email address, the search you saved and the page you asked from, send nothing until you confirm by the link we email you, and put a one-click unsubscribe link in every alert.
When you create an account, we keep:
- your email address, name, country and password (stored only as a secure one-way hash), or, if you sign in with Google, your Google account ID, name, email and profile picture;
- how you found us: the first page you saw, the website that sent you, and any campaign tag in the link;
- your profile and resume: work history, education, skills, certifications, languages, links, phone number, the jobs and places you want, salary and notice period if you add them, the resume file and its text, and a voice or video introduction if you record one;
- what you do with jobs: saved jobs, job alerts, applications and their status in your tracker, notes, your daily matches, and replies employers send through JobRipe;
- if you forward application emails to your tracker address, the sender, subject and what we read from the email (company, job title, outcome). The rest of the email is read once and not kept;
- skill checks you take, practice interviews (the questions, your answers and the feedback), and interview reviews you write about employers (shown publicly without your name);
- messages, invitations and interview bookings between you and employers on JobRipe, and which companies viewed or unlocked your profile;
- if you turn them on, the technical address your browser gives us for push notifications, your Telegram chat ID, or your WhatsApp number for alerts;
- your plan, how much of each monthly allowance you have used, and a record of actions such as signing in or updating your profile, kept to keep accounts secure and to fix problems;
- if you use an apply sprint or the extension, the resume, cover letter and answers we prepare for each job.
If you use the JobRipe browser extension, it reads application forms only on the page where you press “Fill with JobRipe”, fills them from your JobRipe profile, and sends us the page address and the form's question labels (not your answers to other sites) so we can draft answers. It never submits a form for you, never reads your passwords and never tracks your browsing. When you submit an application yourself, it records the job title, company and link in your tracker. Disconnect it at any time from the extension or your JobRipe account.
If an employer connects its hiring system, and you choose “Apply with JobRipe”, we send the details shown to you before sending (name, email, phone, resume, cover letter and your answers) to that employer's hiring system. Nothing is sent without your confirmation, except when you have switched on auto-apply as a Pro member.
If you are an employer or recruiter, we also keep your work email and how it was verified, your company details, the jobs you post, your interview availability, the applications you receive, and your notes and shortlists.
If you pay for a plan, payment is handled by Stripe. We receive a customer reference and whether the payment succeeded; we never see or store your card number.
If you contact us or rate JobRipe, we keep your name, email and message (or rating) so we can reply.
Visit statistics. To understand which pages help people, we record page visits without cookies and without storing your IP address: the page, the website that linked to it, your country (worked out from your browser's time zone or language, or your connection's country where our network provides it; never from a stored address), your browser and device type, a random visit number kept only for the current browser tab, and a daily visitor key: your browser keeps a random number and the date of your first visit, and sends us only a key made from that number and today's date (different every day) and whether you had visited before. That lets us count visitors per day and how many come back, without being able to follow anyone from one day to the next. When you are signed in, the visits are linked to your account. Automated bots are excluded. To stop abuse we briefly hold a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address in memory to count requests; it is never written to our database.
2. How we use it, and on what basis
- To run the service you asked for: show jobs, work out match scores and the reasons behind them, fill in your profile from your resume, keep your tracker, send the alerts you set up, and take payments. Basis: providing the service (contract), and under India's DPDP Act the consent you give by creating an account and using each feature.
- To connect you with employers, only in the ways you choose (see section 3). Basis: your consent, through your visibility setting and each application.
- For AI features you use, such as reading a resume, resume tailoring, cover letters, interview preparation, practice interviews, drafting form answers and reading forwarded emails (see section 4). Basis: your consent, by choosing to use the feature.
- Optional channels: push notifications, Telegram and WhatsApp alerts, the browser extension and the voice or video introduction are off until you turn them on. Basis: consent, which you can withdraw by turning them off.
- To keep JobRipe safe: detecting fake job postings and scams, preventing abuse, and securing accounts. Basis: legitimate interests, and legal obligations.
- To improve the product, using the visit statistics above and counts of how features are used. Basis: legitimate interests (it is cookie-less and can't follow you between days).
- To bill paid plans and keep the records the law requires. Basis: contract and legal obligation.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for third-party advertising. We send emails only for things you set up (like alerts), account matters, the service itself, and a weekly summary of your progress (or, for recruiters, new candidates), which you can turn off with one click in any of those emails or in your profile.
Where you have given consent, you can withdraw it at any time, as easily as you gave it: switch the feature off, disconnect the channel, or delete your account. Withdrawing doesn't affect what was done before.
3. What employers and recruiters see
- When you apply on JobRipe, the employer receives your application: your resume, profile and any answers or cover note you send.
- When a job takes you to the employer's own website, you apply there, under that employer's privacy policy. We don't send them anything.
- Candidate search: recruiters can find your profile only if your visibility setting allows it. “Visible” shows your name and profile; “Anonymous” shows your experience and skills without your name; “Hidden” keeps you out of search. Your email and phone number are shared only if you accept a recruiter's invitation or choose to share your contact details.
- We count which companies viewed your profile so you can see the interest you are getting.
You can change your visibility at any time in your profile.
4. AI features
Some features use AI provided by Anthropic (the company that makes Claude), whose servers are in the United States. When you use them, we send the text the feature needs, for example your resume and a job description for resume tailoring, an email you forwarded to your tracker, the questions on an application form, or your question for the help assistant. Anthropic processes it to produce the answer under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train its models on this data. When AI is unavailable, these features use our own rules instead and nothing is sent.
AI suggestions can be wrong. Check anything you send to an employer; you are responsible for what your applications say. Match scores and rankings help you and recruiters sort jobs and applications; they never decide anything on their own.
Dictation in practice interviews uses your browser's own speech recognition. Some browsers (for example Chrome) send the audio to their maker to turn it into text; we only receive the text.
Auto-apply (on paid plans) is off unless you switch it on. It only applies to jobs posted on JobRipe itself, using the profile and note you have approved. We never submit applications for you on other companies' websites.
6. Cookies and storage on your device
JobRipe does not use advertising or tracking cookies. To work, the site keeps a few things in your browser's own storage:
- your sign-in (
jp_token), your light or dark theme, your homepage preferences and your recent searches; - for the current tab only: the random visit number, the help assistant conversation, and a resume or job ad you are carrying over to sign-up or posting;
- for visit statistics, a random number and the date of your first visit (
jr_v), as described in section 1; - small reminders so we don't ask you the same thing twice (for example that you already set up a job alert, or dismissed a prompt).
Signing out removes your sign-in, recent searches, homepage preferences and the help conversation from that browser. Clearing your browser's site data removes everything.
If you install JobRipe as an app, a small helper (a “service worker”) stores an offline page and shows notifications. It does not store your job data. The browser extension keeps its own connection key and settings in the extension's storage until you disconnect it.
7. How long we keep it
- Account, profile, resume file, intro recording, applications, tracker, saved jobs, alerts, skill checks, practice interviews: Until you delete them or your account.
- Resume, cover letter and answers prepared for an apply sprint or the extension: 30 days, then deleted automatically.
- A resume used with “Match my resume” without an account: Not kept on our servers.
- Job alerts without an account: Until you unsubscribe; the email address is deleted 30 days after you unsubscribe, or 30 days after we asked you to confirm if you never did.
- Records of AI feature use (which feature, how much text, whether it worked; never the text itself), emails we sent (with your address masked) and server errors: 180 days, then deleted automatically.
- Visit statistics and the activity log (sign-ins, profile updates and similar events): Kept for statistics and security. When you delete your account they are no longer linked to you.
- Messages sent through the Contact page: Until the matter is closed, and no longer than two years.
- Payment and billing records: As long as tax and accounting laws require.
- Backups of the database: Rolling copies, each deleted after 14 days. Deleted data disappears from backups within that time.
When you delete your account, we delete your profile, resume and intro files, applications (including from the employer's pipeline on JobRipe), tracker, saved jobs, alerts, skill checks, practice interviews, interview reviews, apply packages, invitations, interview bookings, notification settings and email records, and remove your name from records that have to stay (such as payments, visit statistics and the activity log). Applications you already sent outside JobRipe (on an employer's website, or to a hiring system connected to JobRipe) stay with those employers under their own privacy policies.
8. Your choices and rights
- See and correct your information in your profile at any time.
- Download a copy of everything we hold about you from your dashboard (“Download my data”), in a machine-readable file.
- Delete your account yourself from your dashboard. It takes effect immediately.
- Control who sees you with the visibility setting, and turn alerts, the weekly summary and notifications on or off.
- Withdraw consent for any optional feature by switching it off (see section 2).
- Ask us for a summary of what we hold and who we shared it with, to correct, complete, restrict or erase it, or to object to a use, by emailing support@jobripe.com or through the Contact page. We will answer within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
- Nominate someone (India): you can name a person to use these rights for you if you die or become unable to. Email us with their name and contact details.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, California or India), you may have further rights, including data portability. We will help you use them, and we won't treat you differently for using them.
9. Contact and complaints
For any question or complaint about how your personal data is handled, email support@jobripe.com. We will acknowledge it promptly and resolve it within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India (if you are in India), to your local data protection authority in the EU, or to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the UK. Under India's DPDP Act, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it.
10. Security
Passwords are stored only as secure hashes. Connections to JobRipe are encrypted, and access to our servers, database and backups is limited to the people who run the service. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong that affects your data, we will tell you and the authorities (including the Data Protection Board of India) as the law requires.
11. Where your data is processed
JobRipe serves people in many countries. Our servers and some providers are in a different country from you: in particular Anthropic (AI features) and Stripe process data in the United States. Where the law requires it, we use recognised safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for these transfers, and we don't transfer data to any country the Indian government has restricted.
12. Children
JobRipe is for adults looking for work. In India you must be 18 or over to create an account (India's DPDP Act treats anyone younger as a child, which needs a parent's verifiable consent that we don't collect); elsewhere you must be 16 or over. We don't knowingly collect information from children and don't track or target them; if you think a child has created an account, email support@jobripe.com and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when what we do changes, and change the date at the top. If a change matters, for example a new kind of sharing, we will tell signed-in users before it takes effect.
