About Schuberg Philis

At Schuberg Philis, we specialize in mission-critical IT. We work side-by-side with our customers to ensure their most critical digital services remain secure, reliable, and continuously available. Our engineers are T-shaped professionals: people with deep expertise, broad technical understanding, and a strong sense of ownership.

Within our dedicated, multidisciplinary, and self-managing customer teams, we take responsibility for complex environments and long-term customer success. We manage critical infrastructure, cloud platforms, applications, and security services for organizations that rely on technology every minute of the day.

Security is one of our core value propositions. As our customer environments continue to grow in complexity, we are looking for a Technical Security Lead who can help customers and engineering teams navigate security challenges while continuously improving their security maturity. Inspired by the internal technical security lead role focused on tactical and strategic security leadership for a customer environment.

The role

As a technical security lead, you operate at the intersection of security strategy, governance, and engineering execution.

You will work closely with customer stakeholders, engineers, Tech Leads, Security Leads, auditors, and security specialists to ensure security is embedded into day-to-day operations while maintaining a long-term strategic perspective.

Rather than owning a narrow security domain, you will help shape security across an entire customer environment. You will lead initiatives, challenge teams on risks and findings, facilitate security discussions, support audits and compliance activities, and help teams make informed security decisions.

The role combines technical credibility, security expertise, and organizational influence. You will be expected to understand complex technical environments while also being able to translate security risks and priorities into language that business stakeholders can understand and act upon.

What you'll do

Your responsibilities may vary depending on the customer environment, but typically include:

• Lead security activities across engineering teams and customer stakeholders.
• Drive security maturity and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure customer environments remain aligned with agreed security baselines, controls, and policies.
• Lead audit, compliance, and regulatory activities were required.
• Act as a trusted advisor on security architecture, governance, risk management, and compliance requirements.
• Lead security-related requirements gathering and ensure security considerations are embedded in design and implementation decisions.
• Lead security incident response efforts and act as an escalation point when required.
• Promote security awareness within teams and help foster a culture where security remains a shared responsibility.
• Monitor developments in cybersecurity, emerging threats, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.

What you bring

We are looking for someone who is comfortable operating between engineering and security leadership. You understand technology well enough to challenge engineers and discuss technical risks, but you are equally comfortable sitting down with senior stakeholders to discuss risk appetite, security priorities, compliance requirements, and strategic security initiatives.

You likely bring:

• Several years of experience in information security, cloud security, platform engineering, infrastructure, or a related field.
• A strong technical foundation and the ability to work effectively with software, platform, and infrastructure engineers.
• Experience translating security and risk requirements into practical engineering solutions.
• Knowledge of security architecture, threat modeling, risk management, and security best practices.
• Experience with security governance, audits, compliance requirements, and regulatory frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience coordinating initiatives across multiple teams and stakeholders.
• A proactive, self-starting mindset with a strong sense of ownership.
• Excellent communication skills in English.

Nice to have

• Experience as a Security Lead, Security Officer, Security Architect, Security Consultant, Security Engineer, or similar role.
• Experience advising customers or acting as a trusted security partner to stakeholders.
• Exposure to cloud-native environments, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, or modern platform technologies.
• Experience within highly autonomous engineering organizations.
• Experience with incident response, vulnerability management, or security operations.
• Experience working within regulated industries or complex enterprise environments

Why this role?

This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys both security and people. You'll have the chance to influence security outcomes across a broad and diverse technology landscape that spans cloud platforms, infrastructure, applications, operational technology, and customer-facing systems.

Unlike many security roles that are either heavily governance-focused or purely technical, this position gives you the opportunity to operate between both worlds. You'll be close enough to the technology to understand the challenges teams face, while also working with senior stakeholders to shape strategy, prioritize risk, and drive meaningful improvements.

The role provides significant visibility and impact. You'll become a trusted security partner for both customers and internal teams, helping to guide important decisions that directly affect the resilience and security of mission-critical environments. Your work won't be limited to policy creation or risk reporting; you will actively help teams move security forward and turn strategic objectives into practical outcomes.

For professionals looking to grow their leadership capabilities, the Technical security lead role offers a natural progression path toward broader security leadership positions. You will gain experience operating at tactical, operational, and strategic levels while building relationships with engineers, security specialists, management teams, and customer executives.

Most importantly, you will join a company where security is not viewed as a control function but as an integral part of delivering customer success. You'll be surrounded by highly skilled engineers and security professionals who care deeply about quality, knowledge sharing, ownership, and continuous learning. Together, you'll help secure some of the Netherlands most critical digital services while continuing to develop your own expertise and leadership capabilities.

What can you expect?

At Schuberg Philis, we invest heavily in our people. You'll work in an environment built around trust, autonomy, and long-term customer relationships. We focus on delivering meaningful outcomes rather than maximizing billable hours, giving you the freedom to make decisions and create an impact where it matters most.

You'll have access to training, conferences, internal knowledge-sharing sessions, coaching, and a strong engineering community. We believe the best solutions are created by people who continuously learn, experiment, and collaborate. Whether your ambition is to deepen your security expertise or grow into a future security leadership role, we'll support you in getting there.

If you enjoy combining technical depth, security expertise, stakeholder management, and organizational influence, we would love to hear from you.
