This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Director, Product (Employer of Record) based in South Africa.
As Senior Director of Product, you will own the vision, strategy, and execution for a critical Employer of Record (EOR) product offering.
You will oversee the full employment lifecycle, from onboarding and contracts to benefits, payroll, time off, and offboarding.
Your scope will span customer-facing experiences, internal operational tooling, and the employee experience delivered through the platform.
You will turn complex regulatory and operational requirements into scalable, automated product experiences that reduce risk and improve efficiency.
Working across Product, Engineering, Design, Operations, Legal, and Finance, you will shape both product strategy and broader business outcomes.
You will lead and develop a team of product leaders while raising the bar for ownership, performance, and outcome-driven product management.
This is an opportunity to influence a global, remote-first organization while helping define the future of technology-enabled employment.
Accountabilities
- Own the overall product vision, strategy, roadmap, and business outcomes for the Employer of Record offering, ensuring team-level priorities connect directly to company objectives.
- Take accountability for the end-to-end performance of the product and the operational experience behind it, not simply the features that are delivered.
- Translate complex, localized employment regulations and requirements into scalable, automated workflows that reduce manual effort and operational dependency.
- Balance investment across new product capabilities, regulatory requirements, technical debt, operational improvements, customer needs, and business priorities across multiple teams.
- Lead, coach, and develop Product Managers and Group Product Managers, helping them progress from feature delivery toward strong problem ownership and measurable outcomes.
- Act as a strategic counterpart to Engineering and Design leadership, creating constructive tension around priorities, trade-offs, quality, and execution.
- Partner closely with Operations, Legal, and Finance to influence business strategy, profitability, operational efficiency, and risk management.
- Establish an AI-first approach to product development, using AI to improve discovery, prototyping, experimentation, decision-making, and learning.
- Help shape broader product and company strategy as part of the senior leadership team, particularly during periods of organizational and structural change.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in Product Management, including approximately 5–7 years leading and developing Product Managers, with a demonstrated record of delivering measurable customer and business outcomes.
- Experience working in operationally or legally complex B2B, FinTech, HR technology, payroll, compliance, Employer of Record, or similarly regulated environments.
- Strong systems-thinking capabilities, with an ability to approach complex challenges from first principles, diagnose underlying problems, and develop effective solutions.
- Practical experience using AI to transform how product teams work, including discovery, experimentation, prototyping, analysis, or decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to establish product vision and strategy at business-unit level and build meaningful stakeholder alignment when priorities or circumstances change.
- Proven people leadership skills, including coaching product professionals into stronger leaders, maintaining high standards, providing clear feedback, and addressing difficult issues proactively.
- Experience leading through organizational or structural change, with the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and evolving environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and translate strategic alignment into effective execution.
- Strong commercial and strategic judgment, with the ability to understand the relationship between customer value, operational performance, risk, and business results.
- Fluent English communication skills.
- A reliable home internet connection or the ability to obtain one.
- Ability to work effectively in a fully remote and asynchronous environment.
Benefits
- Fully remote work, with the flexibility to work from home and, where legally permitted and operationally supported, from your preferred location.
- Approximately 40 days of paid time off per year, including holidays and vacation, or more where required by local regulations.
- Access to mental health and wellbeing support through a dedicated employee wellbeing service.
- Monthly wellbeing allowance that can be used across a broad range of eligible wellbeing-related options.
- Flexible parental leave, including at least three months of paid leave for new parents, with job protection for up to 12 months or as required locally.
- Work-from-home stipend to support your laptop, home office setup, and other essential equipment.
- A distributed, asynchronous working environment designed to support collaboration across cultures, countries, and time zones.
- An inclusive and trust-based culture focused on meaningful impact, continuous progress, and equal access to opportunities.
- Opportunity to work on products that enable companies to hire, pay, and support talent globally.
- Reasonable accommodations available throughout the recruitment process for qualified candidates who require them.
