About Nium
Nium is the leading global infrastructure for real-time cross-border payments. We were founded on the mission to deliver the global payments infrastructure of tomorrow, today. Our platform enables banks, fintechs, and global businesses to move money instantly, everywhere.
Co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore with offices in 14 markets worldwide, we are entering one of the most exciting chapters in our journey. In July 2025, we delivered the largest month in our 10-year history with record revenue, record volumes, and EBITDA profitability. Today, Nium moves nearly $50B in payments annually, almost entirely for enterprises, while continuing to strengthen an already healthy balance sheet.
It is an incredible time to join us, and we are only just getting started.
Our payout network spans 190+ countries and 100 currencies, with 100 corridors in real time. We power seamless transfers to accounts, wallets, and cards, support local collections in 35 markets, and run a card issuance business live in 34 countries. Backed by regulatory licenses in more than 40 markets, we make it simple for our partners to onboard, integrate, and scale globally. This scale and innovation have earned us recognition as one of CNBC’s World’s Top Fintech Companies 2025, winner of Best Cross-Border Payments Solution at the PayTech Awards, and inclusion in FXC Intelligence’s Top 100 Cross-Border Payments Companies list.
In 2024, we raised US$50 million in Series E funding at a US$1.4 billion valuation to accelerate network expansion, product innovation, and talent growth. With the B2B payments market projected to hit US$175 trillion by 2030, Nium offers ambitious builders the chance to shape the future of global money movement with the scale of a leader and the energy of a high-growth company.
About the Role
We are looking for a commercially minded, execution-oriented Senior Commercial Counsel to support Nium’s next phase of global growth. You will serve as a trusted legal partner to our commercial, partnership, treasury, compliance, and executive teams, leading complex transactions across payments, card issuance, treasury, and digital asset and stablecoin-enabled solutions. Success requires exceptional commercial judgment, a pragmatic mindset, and the ability to deliver clear, business-focused advice at speed.
Our Legal Team
We are known for Speed, Clarity, and Trust. We move quickly without sacrificing judgment, give practical advice that helps teams act with confidence, and focus on enabling growth and navigating complexity. The best candidates are commercially minded, highly responsive, intellectually curious, and energised by complex problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the drafting, negotiation, and execution of complex commercial agreements with enterprise customers, financial institutions, fintechs, marketplaces, and strategic partners globally.
- Own the company’s most strategic transactions end-to-end with minimal supervision.
- Support the launch and scaling of new payment, card, treasury, and digital asset products, including stablecoin-enabled solutions.
- Develop scalable legal infrastructure — templates, negotiation playbooks, contracting standards, and self-service resources.
- Advise on vendor, technology, SaaS, data, and infrastructure agreements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with compliance, regulatory, privacy, finance, and product teams.
- Drive adoption of AI-enabled legal workflows, contract automation, and knowledge management tools.
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience as a qualified lawyer in-house, at a top law firm, or in a government agency.
- Deep expertise in commercial contracts and building scalable legal infrastructure, ideally at high-growth companies.
- Experience in payments, fintech, banking, digital assets, treasury, card, or other regulated financial services strongly preferred.
- Highly collaborative, solutions-oriented, and biased toward action and impact.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business advice.
- Strong proponent and adopter of technology and AI; humble, low-ego, and committed to continuous improvement.
How we measure success
- Commercial Impact: Serves as lead counsel on complex transactions, accelerates revenue generation, and consistently proposes practical solutions rather than simply identifying issues.
- Speed: Is known for responsiveness and execution. Drives negotiations forward, continuously improving turnaround times through better processes, templates, and AI-enabled tools.
- Clarity: Translates complex legal and regulatory issues into concise, actionable guidance, and creates scalable self-service resources that empower teams to move faster.
- Trust: Quickly becomes a trusted advisor to commercial, finance, compliance, treasury, and executive stakeholders through sound judgment, pragmatism, and deep product knowledge.
- Raises the Bar: Improves the quality and scalability of legal support by building durable templates, playbooks, and frameworks — and consistently leaves every process better than they found it.
