Product Engineer

Product Engineer

Position Overview

The Product Engineer is part of MTC Solutions’ Product Application Engineering team, the group responsible for transforming product data and research findings into design tools that enable engineers and designers to specify and apply our hardware confidently. In this role, you’ll translate engineering test data and research outcomes into clear, practical, and user-friendly documentation, including design guides, white papers, catalogs, spreadsheets, and digital tools. You’ll work at the intersection of technical precision and communication clarity, helping engineers across North America design better timber connections with MTC hardware. This position is intended for an experienced engineer who can independently manage technical documentation initiatives, coordinate cross-functional projects, and help drive the development of industry-leading design resources. The role combines engineering analysis, technical communication, project leadership, and product application engineering within the growing mass timber sector.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Technical Documentation: Create, maintain, and update design guides, white papers, and engineering resources.
• Data Analysis: Interpret test results and research findings to produce design parameters and engineering tables.
• Codes and Standards: Apply relevant design standards (CSA O86, NDS,
Eurocode 5, AS/NZS) and document appropriate assumptions and limits.
• Team Collaboration: Work with the R&D team to incorporate data, the Marketing team to refine visual layout and UX/UI, and the Technical Service team to address recurring industry questions.
• Design Tools: Develop and maintain calculation spreadsheets and digital engineering tools (e.g., Cadwork plugins or software tools).
• Continuous Improvement: Identify gaps or ambiguities in existing resources and propose updates that simplify the designer experience.
• Project Leadership and Coordination: Lead technical documentation and engineering resource projects from planning through publication, coordinating priorities, schedules, and stakeholder input across Engineering, Marketing, Technical Service, and Business Development teams.
• Mentorship and Technical Guidance: Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and documentation practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Timber Engineering (or equivalent background)
• 5–10 years of engineering experience
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or PE) designation, or eligibility for registration
• Demonstrated experience managing technical projects involving multiple stakeholders
• Experience developing engineering resources, design guides, specifications, calculation tools, or technical publications is considered an asset
• Experience in timber engineering, structural connections, mass timber, or building products is considered an asset.
• Strong understanding of design standards such as CSA O86, NDS, Eurocode 5, or similar
• Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills
• Strong technical writing and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion
• Proficiency in English required

Location: Greater Vancouver, Ontario and Quebec.

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $120,000.00 (dependent on experience).

Who You Are

You are a technically curious and detail-oriented engineer who enjoys bridging the gap
between complex data and practical design solutions. You take pride in clarity, turning
dense calculations into information that others can trust and easily apply. You’re
motivated by collaboration, open to feedback, and thrive in an environment where
engineering, creativity, and communication meet. You are comfortable taking ownership of projects, coordinating stakeholders, and driving technical initiatives from concept through implementation.

About MTC Solutions

MTC Solutions is a North American leader in mass timber connection technology. We
design, test, and supply structural hardware that helps engineers and builders realize
safe, efficient, and beautiful timber structures. Our competitive edge comes from our
technical credibility and our ability to translate complex research into usable design

solutions.

Why Join MTC Solutions

At MTC Solutions, you’ll be part of a passionate, close-knit engineering team that is
shaping the future of mass timber construction across North America. We are small,
agile, and driven by quality. Here, your work has a direct impact: the documents and
tools you create will be used by engineers and designers on real mass timber projects

every day.

Company & Role

The Engineering Department

The Engineering Department is the technical core of MTC Solutions. Its mission is to
generate, validate, and distribute the data and tools that enable our customers to design
with confidence. The department includes two collaborative sub-teams:

1. Research and Development (R&D):

The R&D team drives innovation by developing new products and generating technical
data through research and testing. It supports evaluation reports (ICC-ESR, CCMC),
industry standards, and collaborative research projects with universities and labs. Their
focus is to turn market needs into validated engineering solutions, the scientific
foundation for all MTC products.

2. Product Application Engineering (PAE):
The Product Application Engineering team takes the data created by R&D and turns it
into the design resources used by the building community. This team creates the
documents and tools that define how our products are applied in practice, from design
guides and catalogs to calculation spreadsheets and software integrations. Their goal is
simple but ambitious: make it as easy as possible to specify MTC hardware in mass
timber projects.
Together, these two teams form a continuous loop:
Research creates knowledge → Application turns it into tools → Field feedback drives

new research.

The Product Engineer’s Place in the Team

As a Product Engineer, you'll be a key contributor within the Product Application Engineering team. You'll work closely with the Engineering Team Lead, Product Development Liaison, and other engineering stakeholders to develop technical resources, coordinate projects, and help shape the future of MTC's engineering tools and documentation.

You will:

• Interpret data from the R&D team and implement it in design documentation.
• Collaborate with the Marketing and Communication department to ensure the
  materials are clear and accessible.
• Coordinate with Technical Service to understand where designers need more
  guidance.
• Maintain and improve MTC’s library of design documents so that our hardware
remains the easiest to specify and use in the industry.
• Lead technical projects involving multiple internal stakeholders, ensuring priorities, timelines, and deliverables remain aligned.

The Product Engineer will collaborate with:

• R&D Team: to receive and interpret testing data and technical reports.
• Technical Service: to identify recurring customer questions and close information gaps
• Marketing Communication: to ensure that technical documents are visually
  clear and brand-consistent.
• Business Development: to align on industry needs and emerging specifications
  trends
• External Research Partners: to support collaborative research initiatives and technology transfer into practical engineering resources.

Work Environment

You’ll join a team that is collaborative and highly engaged in continuous learning. The
Engineering Department is known for its attention to detail and its commitment to
publishing only the highest-quality technical resources. You’ll be supported by mentors
and peers who share a common goal: to elevate engineering practice within the mass

timber industry.

Why This Role Matters

Every MTC document and tool represents a promise to the design community: that our
data is accurate, our recommendations are trustworthy, and our products are ready to
perform. As a Product Engineer, you help uphold that promise. Your contribution will

shape how designers interact with mass timber hardware and how our brand continues

to lead in clarity and credibility.
