Ready to build the software behind real-world renewable energy installations?

At Bright Renewables, your PLC software doesn’t stay behind a desk. You’ll see it come to life in complex industrial installations for renewable gas and CO₂ technologies.

As a PLC Software Engineer, you’ll be involved in the complete automation lifecycle - from software design and programming to testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization.

You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to technical decisions, help shape our automation standards, and work alongside experienced colleagues as part of an international software engineering team of around 10 engineers. Together, you’ll collaborate across the Netherlands, Latvia, and Poland to develop and deliver reliable, innovative automation solutions.

Why this role?

You’ll get the opportunity to:

• Own your solutions - contribute to software solutions throughout the project lifecycle, from design and programming to testing and commissioning;

• Work on real installations - solve automation challenges in complex renewable energy plants;

• Have technical influence - contribute to software standards, templates, concepts, and ways of working, within a team that values collaboration and embraces innovative ideas from everyone;

• Keep developing - work alongside experienced Electrical and Software Engineers and continue building your technical expertise;

• Work internationally - collaborate with colleagues and project teams in the Netherlands, Poland, Latvia and beyond, including regular international travel to visit our offices and project sites;

• Choose what works for you - work 32 or 40 hours per week, with flexible starting times and opportunities to work from home;

• Make an impact - use your automation expertise in technologies that contribute directly to the energy transition.

What will you do?

You report directly to the Manager E&I and Software and work closely with Electrical Engineers, Process Engineers and fellow Software Engineers.

Depending on your experience, you’ll also have the opportunity to take more technical ownership, contribute to software concepts and standards, and support colleagues with complex automation challenges.

Your responsibilities include:

• Designing, programming, testing, and commissioning PLC and SCADA systems;

• Developing control software for gas upgrading, CO₂ liquefaction, and other renewable energy technologies;

• Taking ownership of your software from engineering through commissioning;

• Testing and troubleshooting software during commissioning and operation;

• Analyzing and resolving software and control-related issues in existing installations;

• Implementing software updates and optimizations;

• Supporting Service Engineers with more complex automation and software questions;

• Contributing to software standards, templates, and automation concepts;

• Working closely with Electrical Engineers, Software Engineers, and other technical disciplines;

• Sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues within the engineering team.

What do you bring?

We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges and wants to take responsibility for their own engineering work.

Ideally, you have:

• A completed technical education in automation, mechatronics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field;

• Several years of experience in PLC/SCADA engineering within an industrial environment;

• Hands-on experience in PLC programming, ideally with Siemens S7 and TIA Portal, combined with knowledge of WinCC SCADA, industrial communication networks, and remote access solutions.

• Experience with commissioning and troubleshooting industrial installations;

• A good understanding of automation architectures and industrial control systems;

• Good command of English, both spoken and written;

• Knowledge of OT security is a plus.

What’s in it for you?

We want to give you the technical freedom and working environment to do your best engineering work.

You can expect:

• A competitive salary based on your experience and technical background;

• The option to work 32 or 40 hours per week;

• Flexible starting times between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. ;

• Ample opportunities to work from home, including a one-time €250 allowance to set up your home office;

• An attractive annual profit-sharing scheme for employees with at least 12 months of service;

• An excellent pension scheme;

• 8% annual holiday allowance;

• A commuting allowance of €0.23 per kilometer, in accordance with our employment conditions;

• A high level of autonomy and responsibility;

• Plenty of opportunities for technical and professional development;

• An international engineering environment with both experienced professionals and engineers earlier in their careers;

• The opportunity to work with renewable energy technologies and contribute directly to the energy transition;

• A bike lease program and rewards for cycling to work;

• A modern, sustainably built working environment in Hengelo.
