Platform Engineer

About Us

Flourish and Thrive Labs is a woman-owned and led consulting firm specializing in public health solutions. Our team, composed of former public health officials, works with state and local health departments across the country, building resilient public health operating systems. We pride ourselves on being different, holding ourselves to high ethical standards, and taking care of each other.

We view our company as an urban neighborhood—a diverse group of individuals coming together to live and work, embracing the beauty in that diversity. We are a wacky bunch who are intent on spreading joy! (We just mailed out stickers to over 200 local health health professionals because we felt they could use more joy!)

As Salesforce, Microsoft, Snowflake, and AWS partners, we specialize in technology implementation with a strong people focus. We combine this with strategic planning, data analysis, coaching, and facilitation to effectively support local public health department staff.

Our core values are:

• People First
• Focus on Capacity Building
• Belief in Continuous Experimentation
• By Public Heath; For Public Health
• We Do What Is Right. Always.

We're seeking passionate, joyful individuals who align with our ethos of being different and making a difference.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A TEAM MEMBER WITH PUBLIC HEALTH EXPERIENCE (LOCAL/ TRIBAL/ STATE/ FEDERAL).

About Consulting at F&T Labs

If you're new to consulting, we want to help you understand what makes F&T Labs different and why our approach might be perfect for you. We know transitioning from government and non-profit to consulting can be a big step, but we've designed our work environment to blend the best of both worlds.

First, let's talk about how we work. Unlike traditional consulting firms, we hire you for a role, not a specific project. This means you can contribute to various initiatives that match your expertise and interests. Think of it as bringing your public health superpowers to different challenges where they're needed most.

We believe in measuring what matters. While many consulting firms focus on billable hours, we care about the quality and impact of your work. Time sheets don't measure your success with us – it's measured by the meaningful solutions you help create for our clients and their communities.

Yes, we have utilization targets (consulting speak for how much of your time is spent on client work), but we view these as guideposts rather than strict rules. They help us ensure we're making a sustainable impact while maintaining a healthy business. These targets are meant to motivate, not to create stress.

One of the most dynamic aspects of consulting is its natural rhythm. Some weeks might be bustling with activity, while others might be quieter. We embrace these ebbs and flows because they create space for both intense, focused work and time for learning, reflection, and personal growth. This is part of our philosophy that work and life shouldn't be at odds – they should be integrated in a sustainable and energizing way.

At our core, we're built on a simple belief: when our team members flourish, our clients flourish, and ultimately, communities thrive. That's why we've created an environment that supports your growth, values your expertise, and understands that the best solutions come from people who feel empowered and energized by their work.

If you're passionate about public health and excited about the possibility of expanding your impact through consulting, we'd love to talk with you. Your experience in public health is valuable, and we're here to help you apply it in new and meaningful ways.

The problem you will help solve

Public health agencies depend on reliable, secure technology to protect communities. When the systems health departments use to manage data, coordinate programs, and respond to crises go down, response slows, and communities lose ground. At Flourish and Thrive Labs, we build and operate PH360, a public health technology platform that helps local, state, territorial, tribal, and federal agencies work faster and smarter. You will keep that platform running, secure, and ready for the people who depend on it.

What success looks like

In your first 30 days, you will learn the PH360 platform architecture, meet your teammates on the System Team, get oriented in our AWS and Salesforce environments, and complete your first sandbox configuration task.

By 90 days, you will independently manage sandbox environments, own a defined set of CI/CD pipeline workflows in GitHub Actions, and actively contribute to SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance activities.

In your first year, you will have materially improved the reliability and synchronization of our development, staging, and production environments, reduced sandbox-related access issues, and contributed to a measurable improvement in deployment pipeline efficiency.

A typical week

Most of your time will be spent configuring and maintaining AWS and Salesforce environments across development, staging, and production, as well as keeping GitHub Actions workflows running smoothly. You will participate in Scaled Agile for Enterprise (SAFe) ceremonies as a member of the System Team supporting the Agile Release Train, including PI Planning. You will collaborate daily with fellow platform engineers and coordinate with System, Solution, and Enterprise Architects on platform decisions. You will monitor system health through Datadog and contribute to incident response when production issues arise.

How you will work with AI

F&T Labs uses AI tools to support engineering and operations work. You will be expected to use AI coding and productivity assistants as part of your workflow. Humans remain accountable for all infrastructure decisions, code reviews, security configurations, and any actions that affect protected health information. We will provide training and support for team members who are new to AI-native ways of working.

What you need to succeed on day one

The following are required on day one. We mean these as real requirements, not a wish list.

1.You can configure, manage, and troubleshoot AWS cloud environments, including development, staging, and production systems.

2.You can administer Salesforce environments, including standing up sandboxes, synchronizing them, and resolving access issues.

3.You can build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.

4.You have worked directly within a local, state, territorial, tribal, or federal public health agency, giving you a firsthand understanding of the environment our customers operate in.

5.You hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, public health informatics, or a closely related field.

Nice to have, and we will help you learn the rest

•Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator credential

•AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner credential

•Experience with scripting languages (such as Bash or Python) for automation

•Experience with Docker and containerized environments

•Familiarity with Datadog or similar observability platforms

•Experience supporting SOC 2 or HIPAA compliance programs

If you have lived experience or community ties relevant to the populations our public health customers serve, we value that perspective alongside your technical skills.

Honest notes about the work

Hours: Core collaboration hours are 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. Central, Monday through Friday. We offer flexibility outside those hours, and we trust you to manage your time. There will occasionally be periods, such as around major platform releases or compliance milestones, when availability outside core hours may be needed. We aim to be transparent about those periods in advance.

On-call: There is no formal on-call rotation at this time. If a critical production issue arises, the team responds on a best-effort basis. We will communicate honestly if this changes.

Incident response: You may be involved in diagnosing and resolving system outages. We approach incidents as learning opportunities, not blame events.

Compliance work: This role actively contributes to SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance. That work involves careful documentation and attention to detail and is a valued part of how we protect our customers and their communities.
