Infrastructure Engineer

About OLIX

AI is growing faster than any technology in history and the explosion in demand has created a massive infrastructure gap; we can no longer build chips or power stations fast enough to keep up. The industry is still leaning on a ten-year-old hardware blueprint that has reached its limit. A new paradigm that is faster and more efficient will be the biggest economic opportunity of the next century and create the most important company of the next decade. The OLIX Decode Accelerator 1 (DX-1) is the first accelerator architected specifically for decode. Rack-scale co-design of logic, data movement, packaging, optics and interconnect enables a step change in system level performance.

The Role

We're hiring a senior infrastructure engineer to own the internal platform our engineering teams build, test, and collaborate on, spanning AWS and on-prem compute, storage, networking, build and CI/CD systems, and the security that protects all of it, while working closely with our IT & Security team, who own identity, devices, and corporate security. You'll turn slow, manual, loosely secured workflows into fast, reproducible, and genuinely secure ones. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role with the freedom to define how internal infrastructure and its security work here from the ground up. If you care about engineering velocity, solid networking, best-in-class security, and a well-run technical environment in equal measure, there's a lot to dig into.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate the platform: design, provision, and run the AWS, Kubernetes, and bare-metal infrastructure that powers development, simulation, and testing workloads.

• Automate everything: own infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and provisioning pipelines so environments are reproducible, version-controlled, and fast to stand up or tear down.

• Improve the developer platform: build and maintain CI/CD, internal tooling, and self-service workflows that let hardware, software, and compiler engineers ship without waiting on you.

• Tune for performance: optimise networking (VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, and low-latency/high-bandwidth fabrics) and storage for the throughput and latency that chip design, compiler, and simulation workloads require.

• Own reliability and observability: implement monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning, and drive availability and performance across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments.

• Own platform security: implement least-privilege cloud IAM, secrets management, data protection, and network segmentation across self-hosted and cloud infrastructure, in partnership with IT & Security.

• Isolate workloads: give each engineering group (chip design and EDA, compiler and agentic workloads, simulation) an isolated, independently scalable environment with clear cost attribution and strong protection for sensitive design data.

• Drive continuous improvement: proactively find and fix the bottlenecks, manual steps, and reliability gaps that slow the wider engineering team down.

Skills & Experience

• Deep expertise in infrastructure, platform, or DevOps/SRE engineering, with a track record of owning systems end to end.

• Strong infrastructure-as-code and automation skills: Terraform, Ansible, and scripting in Python and Bash.

• Solid networking fundamentals.

• Hands-on AWS depth and experience operating across hybrid cloud and on-prem/bare-metal environments.

• Strong grasp of infrastructure security: IAM, secrets management, network security, and hardening across cloud and self-hosted systems.

• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex, cross-layer issues in a fast-moving environment.

• A collaborative communicator who can work with hardware and compiler engineers and explain infrastructure trade-offs clearly.

Compensation & Equity

• Competitive Salary: Commensurate with your experience, skills, and location

• Equity & Ownership: Meaningful stock options. You’re not just joining the mission; you’re owning a piece of it

• Proximity Bonus: We value your time. To minimise your commute and maximise your life, we offer an annual Living-Local Bonus if your residence is within 20 minutes of the office

• Retirement Benefits: Employer-contributed retirement plans to help you build long-term financial security.

Due to U.S. export control regulations, candidates’ eligibility to work at OLIX depends on their most recent citizenship or permanent residency status. We are generally unable to consider applicants whose most recent citizenship or permanent residence is in certain restricted countries (currently including Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, Russia, Belarus, China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Venezuela). Applicants who have subsequently obtained citizenship or permanent residency in another country not subject to these restrictions may still be eligible.
