Who We Are
Moniepoint Inc. is Africa’s all-in-one financial platform, helping 20 million businesses and individuals access seamless payments, banking, credit, cross-border, and business management tools each month.
As Nigeria’s largest merchant acquirer, we power most of the country’s point-of-sale (POS) transactions. Through our subsidiaries, Moniepoint Inc. processes over $250 billion in digital payment transaction value annually.
Why Spain
Some of our most mission-critical team members are based in Spain, having joined us from companies like Wise and Glovo. Moniepoint is one of the largest and fastest-growing digital banks in Africa, and this is an opportunity to work on genuinely impactful problems: disrupting financial services at scale in emerging markets, and building systems and products that process hundreds of billions of dollars in transaction volume annually for tens of millions of people.
So, now we are looking for our Head of Engineering, Supply Chain to join us in Spain.
About The Role
POS Hardware and Device Platforms owns the software behind the physical side of Moniepoint's business: the systems that track, move, maintain and account for millions of POS terminals in the field. That covers inventory and warehouse management, logistics and distribution, repair and maintenance workflows, and the operational tooling the business runs on day to day. It is a backend and distributed systems challenge at real scale - making operational data about millions of physical devices visible, trustworthy and consistent across every market we operate in. It is not a hardware engineering role.
The Head of Engineering, POS Supply Chain, oversees that software estate and is vital as Moniepoint expands internationally and scales device operations globally. The position involves leading the technical strategy for the domain and managing a large engineering organisation in a remote, distributed environment. As Head of Engineering, Supply Chain, your responsibilities will include:
- Owning the technical strategy and architecture for inventory and logistics tools and repair management software.
- Leading an engineering organisation of approximately 25 engineers, including managers, QA, SRE and Data Engineering.
- Driving platformisation of inventory and supply chain systems so operational data is visible, trustworthy and consistent across millions of terminals.
- Bridging the gap between operational practice and software systems by building operationally disciplined solutions.
- Defining architecture standards, engineering processes and quality metrics across squads to ensure reliability and data integrity.
- Collaborating with business and operational stakeholders to translate operational requirements into engineering solutions.
- Hiring, mentoring and developing engineering managers and senior engineers to support team growth up to 30+ members.
Who You Are
- 10–15 years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 5 years leading engineering teams through growth phases.
- 5+ years of hands-on, production-level experience writing and shipping Java code as a practising engineer. This means years spent writing Java yourself, not years spent overseeing teams who write it.
- At least 5 years of experience managing managers - leading an engineering organisation through other engineering leaders, rather than running a single team.
- Deep hands-on experience in supply chain, inventory, warehouse or logistics software at scale.
- Fintech or regulated-industry experience, with an understanding of the operational stakes of device management in a payments environment.
- Strong backend engineering skills for data-intensive, distributed, operational systems.
- Proven system design ability at large scale, managing hundreds of thousands of devices or more.
- Experience managing and developing large engineering teams of 20 or more members.
- Excellent stakeholder management, translating complex technical concepts for non-technical leaders.
- A product-minded approach to solving operational problems with engineering solutions.
Cultural Alignment
As well, we assess every candidate across eight dimensions that define how great leaders operate at Moniepoint. We look for evidence of all eight throughout the process, not just in a single conversation.
- Customer Obsession: Build deep empathy for users. Solve problems intuitively, and fix root causes, not just tickets.
- Craft: Master the fundamentals. Reason from first principles, make trade-offs explicit, and raise the bar on quality.
- Systemisation: Turn repeating decisions into scalable mechanisms. Reduce cognitive load and raise engineering quality.
- Urgency: Move with disciplined speed. Act autonomously within scope, remove friction, and escalate risks early.
- Ownership: Treat the platform as your own. Take initiative across boundaries and follow through without reminders.
- No Ego: Put the mission first. Share credit, welcome debate, and never protect status over team outcomes.
- Candour: Surface uncomfortable truths and risks early. Intelligent failure is welcome; concealment is not.
- Integrity: Stay truthful and ethically consistent. Refuse toxic behavior. Performance without integrity is unacceptable.
What Success Looks Like In The Role
- Scalable inventory and logistics systems delivered, supporting millions of devices across multiple countries.
- A high-performing, motivated engineering team aligned with company growth.
- Operational data visibility and trust established across multiple global markets.
- Robust architecture standards enabling reliability and data integrity.
- Effective collaboration with business and operational teams to meet rapid expansion needs.
What we can offer you
- Lead engineering for one of Africa's largest POS networks and directly influence our global expansion.
- Work in a fast-paced, innovative environment at the intersection of fintech and hardware operations.
- Be part of a mission-driven company impacting millions of businesses and individuals across Africa and beyond.
What to expect in the hiring process
- A preliminary phone call with the recruiter.
- 60 minute High level System Design round with one of our Engineering Managers.
- 60 minute Panel Interview with 2 of our Head of Engineering leaders, 30 minutes focused on a technical deep dive into your CV and into a project/system you built in the past. 30 minutes will be focused on testing for leadership attributes.
