About the role
About Cardiff
Cardiff lends to small businesses. Since 2004 we've funded more than $12 billion across the country, to businesses in logistics, healthcare, construction, professional services, and plenty in between. We're building our own underwriting technology, and we still answer the phone; our customers need capital fast, and they want a straight answer from a person who can actually help.
Location: San Diego, CA or Remote (U.S.)
Employment Type: Full-time
Department: Marketing
Reports to: Communications Director
The Role
We’re looking for an Economic Research Writer to produce Cardiff’s economic and industry research reports. Assignments follow a set release calendar.

- Write industry reports on the sectors Cardiff serves, including trucking and freight, construction and trades, agriculture, and food service
- Analyze public data and Cardiff’s lending data to surface key findings and trends
- Produce quarterly and year-end reports that pull the year’s data together
- Deliver clear report summaries our PR team can pitch to media
- Hit publication timelines tied to data release dates
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience
- Ability to read economic data and find the story with a strong lead
- Published clips in business, finance, or economic writing
- Exceptional English writing; your work should be your own
- Clean, accurate copy that needs minimal editing
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Finance, Business, or a related field
- Reliability on turnaround times, often 2 to 5 business days
What Success Looks Like
- Reports cited by reporters and picked up in media coverage
- Accurate, well-sourced analysis that holds up to scrutiny
- Drafts that go from first submission to final with one round of edits
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary $70,000+
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- 401(k) plan
- Flexible PTO and observed holidays
- Remote-first, with support for your home-office setup
- Direct access to leadership and to the problems that matter
