Commissioning & Field Deployment Engineer

At Hive, we're building the defining physical AI platform of the next decade.

Industrial labor is one of the most acute bottlenecks in the global economy. Operators are expensive, hard to retain, and working in environments that are increasingly unsafe. The shortage is structural. The window to solve it is now.

Our answer is a machine-agnostic intelligence platform that lets any machine, on any site, perceive, decide, and act autonomously. One platform. Any machine. No fleet replacement.

Already live across multiple sites and customers in Europe - spanning logistics and warehousing, industrial manufacturing, and large-scale chemical production - with a US expansion underway.

The vision: one operator managing hundreds of machines simultaneously. Productive machine-hour cost dropping by 80x, and unlocks the next productivity revolution in physical work.

The mission is to make productivity limitless. Come and help us build it.

The Role

As Commissioning & Field Deployment Engineer, you will be responsible for the hands-on installation, integration, testing and commissioning of Hive systems, mainly at customer sites.

You will work directly on industrial machines alongside Hive Engineering and Delivery, taking systems from physical installation through technical commissioning and operational readiness.

This is a field-focused engineering role for someone comfortable combining mechanical, electrical and software-based troubleshooting in real industrial environments.

What You Will Do

Install & Integrate Hive Systems

• Perform mechanical and electrical installation of Hive equipment on industrial machines.

• Install, connect and verify system hardware and related components.

• Build, modify and troubleshoot wiring, harnesses, brackets and installation components when required.

• Verify installations against drawings, specifications and quality requirements.

• Prepare machines and equipment for commissioning and deployment.

Commission Systems

• Perform system configuration, calibration and commissioning.

• Execute commissioning procedures, functional testing and technical verification.

• Verify that system components and machine interfaces operate correctly.

• Diagnose and resolve installation, configuration and commissioning issues.

• Document commissioning results, issues and corrective actions.

• Support final validation and readiness for customer operation.

Support Customer Deployments

• Travel to customer sites across the UK to install and commission Hive solutions.

• Work closely with the Deployment Manager, Engineering and customer teams during deployment.

• Troubleshoot technical issues in active industrial environments.

• Support testing, validation, acceptance and go-live activities.

• Provide hands-on technical support during the early stages of customer operations.

Improve How We Deploy

• Improve installation and commissioning procedures based on field experience.

• Identify recurring issues and feed practical improvements back to Engineering.

• Help develop tools, documentation and checklists for future deployments.

• Support preparation of machines and equipment at Hive's UK facility.

• Help establish a high standard for installation quality, commissioning and field execution.

What We're Looking For

Essential

• Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical or electromechanical systems.

• Experience installing, commissioning, maintaining or troubleshooting industrial equipment.

• Strong practical troubleshooting skills.

• Comfortable reading technical drawings, wiring diagrams and installation documentation.

• Experience working with electrical wiring, sensors, control systems or industrial electronics.

• Comfortable using computers and software-based diagnostic or configuration tools.

• Strong attention to quality and safety.

• Able to work independently and solve problems in the field.

• Comfortable working directly with customers and other technical teams.

• Willingness to travel extensively across the UK.

• Authorized to work in the UK.

Strongly preferred

Experience with one or more of:

• Industrial automation

• Robotics or autonomous systems

• Heavy equipment

• Forklifts or material-handling equipment

• Construction or mining machinery

• Automotive or off-highway equipment

• Field service engineering

• Controls or electrical systems

• Sensor installation and calibration

• Linux-based systems

• Industrial networking

Experience commissioning complex systems in customer environments is a major advantage.

Who Thrives at Hive

• You prefer working on real machines over sitting behind a desk.

• You enjoy figuring out why something doesn't work — and fixing it.

• You are comfortable combining mechanical, electrical and software troubleshooting.

• You take pride in clean, reliable installations and high-quality field work.

• You work well in fast-moving environments where not every problem has a documented solution.

• You want to help build a field engineering capability from the ground up.

This is an opportunity to play a direct role in bringing Hive's technology from engineering into real industrial operations across the UK.

Why Join Hive?

Join Hive at a pivotal stage as we expand into the UK and build a new category in Physical AI. You’ll work with cutting-edge autonomy technology and a highly experienced team to bring autonomous industrial machines out of development and into real-world commercial operations.

As we establish and scale our UK operations, you’ll have the opportunity to take on significant responsibility from day one, help shape how we operate in the UK, and build the playbooks for deploying and operating autonomous machines at scale..

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the position may be filled before the application deadline. Early applications are encouraged. Hive values diversity and encourages qualified candidates to apply regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation or background.
