In most cases your employer sponsors your work permit and residence visa, and the process starts after you accept an offer. Private sector employment is regulated by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), and free zones have their own authorities. Some longer-term residence options exist for highly skilled professionals, investors and others, and there are visit options for people looking for work. Requirements change, so check the official UAE government portals and the relevant free zone or ministry website.
The UAE has a large, diverse workforce and Indian professionals are well represented across sectors. Common areas of hiring include hospitality and retail, construction and engineering, healthcare, finance and accounting, sales, IT, logistics and aviation.
Get your documents ready early
UAE employers and authorities often require your educational certificates to be attested before a work permit or professional licence is issued. Attestation typically involves verification in India followed by authentication for use in the UAE. The exact steps and accepted methods can change, so check the Ministry of External Affairs (India) website, the UAE embassy in India and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs before you start. Allow plenty of time.
Also check whether your passport category requires emigration clearance through India's eMigrate system for employment in the UAE. Regulated professions, such as healthcare, require a separate professional licence from the relevant health authority.
Where to look
Large employers and government-related entities recruit through their own careers pages. Gulf-focused job sites and professional networks are widely used, and many recruitment agencies operate legitimately. On JobRipe, browse jobs in the UAE and visa sponsorship jobs in the UAE.
Networking is important in the Gulf. Former colleagues, alumni groups and industry events often lead to roles before they're advertised.
A CV for Gulf employers
Gulf CVs are often two pages and a little more detailed than UK or US ones. Some employers still expect personal details such as nationality, visa status and notice period, and some ask for a photo. Include them if the job ad or employer asks, and keep them factual. Make your current location and availability clear.
Highlight any Gulf or international experience, relevant licences, and languages (Arabic is a plus in many roles). See resume formats by country.
Read the offer and contract carefully
Your contract should be issued through the official system and in a language you understand. Check the basic salary separately from allowances (housing, transport), because some benefits, such as end-of-service gratuity, are typically calculated on basic salary. Check working hours, leave, probation, notice period, medical insurance, and who pays for the visa and flights.
Compare offers properly. Tax treatment and living costs differ from India, and accommodation is often the largest expense. Use the job offer comparison tool and check typical pay for your role on the salary explorer.
Know your basic rights
The UAE labour law sets rules on contracts, wages, leave and end of service, and MoHRE publishes guidance in several languages. In general, employers are not allowed to charge workers recruitment fees, and you should keep your own passport. If you have a problem, MoHRE and the Indian Embassy and Consulate provide support channels.
Avoid recruitment scams
Fake UAE jobs are among the most common overseas scams targeting Indian job seekers. Warning signs include fees for visas or 'processing', offer letters without an interview, Gmail or similar addresses, pressure to travel on a visit visa and 'convert later', and very high pay for simple jobs. Check agents on the eMigrate portal, verify employers directly, and read overseas job scams. Paste any offer into the scam checker.
Questions people ask
Can I go to Dubai on a visit visa to look for a job?
Some people do, and there are visit options intended for job seekers. You must not work on a visit visa. Your employer has to obtain a work permit and residence visa before you start. Check current rules on official UAE government sites.
Do I need to attest my degree?
Usually yes, for a work permit or professional licence. Check the current attestation process with India's Ministry of External Affairs and UAE authorities.
Should a Dubai CV have a photo?
It's more common than in Europe or North America, but not universal. Include one only if the employer or ad asks, and use a professional photo.
Who pays for the UAE work visa?
In general the employer bears the cost of the work permit and visa. Be cautious of anyone asking you to pay for it.
